013: LEAVING “THE FIRST HALF OF LIFE”: REFLECTIONS ON MY SOUL SHIFT

This is my first podcast episode with just me talking. I have felt lately to be more open about my faith journey, in hopes that there could be others out there (and I know there are) who ask, question, struggle, wrestle, and have a craving for more.

I just HAD to do this episode on “Leaving the First Half of Life,” because there is so much on my mind and heart surrounding this concept of soul sovereignty and “taking the training wheels off.” I discovered a book by Richard Rohr called Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life while on a sacred Mary Magdalene tour last year in France. I hope you’ll enjoy the musings and pontifications of this baby 50-year-old, these “Reflections on My Soul Shift.”

In this episode:

Transformation is more about un-learning than learning. It’s about releasing what you thought you knew – de-programming, destructuring, asking, probing, and challenging
Hear how entering the “dark night of the soul” thrust me into a new way of looking at Christianity, my family, falling, and suffering

Quotes:

“We’re really in an interesting time on the earth. There is so much information. There’s all this information, but there’s also this transformation that’s kind of ‘at the ready’ – as an offering and an invitation being extended to us by God, by the Universe, by Goddess…This is the time for us to step up and to really claim our soul sovereignty.”

“With the first and second half of life, it’s like the first half is a task…all about building a foundation; identity formation. And if you don’t have a strong first half of life built—a moral compass, a guide in how to treat people with tolerance and kindness and compassion; and if you don’t have an understanding of rules and laws–especially spiritual laws and how they work—it’s really hard to transition into that second half of life. But the second half of life is not just about the “container”—it’s about the contents of your container.”
